Spring has become one of my favorite seasons--it's a time when we celebrate the successes of our faculty and staff who have worked hard to improve the lives of our students. Specifically, for the Office of Instruction, spring is when we recognize the innovative teaching and guidance of our faculty and advisors.
Two University of Georgia advisors have received an Outstanding Undergraduate Academic Advising Award. Cindy Schulman in the Exploratory Center is a recipient in the professional advisor category and Jessie Daniels in the Terry College of Business is in the recipient in the new staff advisor category. They were nominated by their supervisors and selected by 12 students from the various colleges on campus.
Welcome back! I hope you had a great spring break and got the opportunity to unwind or get involved. With just six weeks left in the semester, it's time to roll up your sleeves and prepare for not only the end of spring (and for some of you graduation), but also summer semester, future semesters and some changes in student financial aid.
A few months ago, I shared my discussions with the top employers of UGA graduates about what key skills they look for when recruiting new talent. Hands down, they want graduates with "T-skills" -- students who have global perspectives
Crosslisted courses have a long history at UGA and we currently have 1,663 such courses in our database. While many courses are crosslisted with just one additional prefix, such as CLAS(ANTH) 2000, others are crosslisted with multiple prefixes.

As we settle into the routine of the spring semester, I wanted to share information about a few ongoing projects to improve our instructional infrastructure, support and services for students. I will be providing more detailed information about many of these efforts over the next several months, but here are the highlights.
Before a speaker visited his art history class, Alex French had never heard of the small mountaintop town of Cortona, Italy. Alex also wasn’t aware of UGA’s Cortona Program that enables students of many different majors to study abroad in Italy for a semester.
I hope that you had a restful holiday and were able to spend quality time with your families and friends. We've made a lot of progress on various initiatives in the last several months. As we begin this spring semester, we are looking ahead to further improving our instructional infrastructure, support and services for students and faculty. I will be sharing more detailed information about many of these efforts over the next several months, but I wanted to highlight some here.
Following a national search, Stephen P. Balfour has been named director of the University of Georgia Office of Online Learning. Balfour will begin his new position on Feb. 1.
As previously announced, Jan Hathcote retired on Jan. 4th as University of Georgia Registrar. During the ongoing search for a new registrar, UGA Senior Associate Registrar Rosemary Segreti has been named interim registrar. Her appointment began on Jan. 5th and will continue until a permanent registrar is in place.
