UGA offers summer classes as convenient option for students

While most students consider taking a break during the summer, some may want to squeeze in extra courses to stay on track for graduation or to get an early start on their college experience. UGA will offer summer sessions for these students in both the traditional and online formats. UGA offers summer classes on all its campuses-Athens, Griffin, Gwinnett and Tifton-for students wanting the traditional class experience. Veteran administrator named associate VP for instruction

Ronald Cervero, a veteran administrator in the College of Education, has been named associate vice president for instruction. The appointment was effective March 1. Cervero has served as associate dean for outreach and engagement in the College of Education since 2009 and has been a UGA faculty member since 1986. "Dr. Cervero has a proven record of academic leadership and administration," said Laura Jolly, vice president for instruction. "He is passionate about the instructional mission and brings a wealth of knowledge and university experience to the position. … more

New online courses offered this summer

The Office of Online Learning is working with UGA faculty to plan and implement a new online format for high-demand undergraduate courses. Instructional designers in the Office of Online Learning and in the university's schools and colleges are partnering with the Center for Teaching and Learning to assist 36 faculty during the spring semester to have 34 new online courses available in the summer. For the past decade, online courses across numerous disciplines, particularly graduate courses, have been available for UGA students in OASIS (the Online Access to Student Information Systems). … more

Harshman named new faculty director for UGA’s First-Year Odyssey Seminar program

Athens, Ga. - Melissa Harshman, an associate professor in the University of Georgia's Lamar Dodd School of Art, has been named faculty director of the First-Year Odyssey Seminar program. Through the program, small-group academic seminars taught by tenured and tenure-track faculty are offered to all incoming freshmen. Harshman follows Tim Foutz, who served as director in the founding year of the program from 2011-12. … more
