2018-19 UGA Teaching Academy Fellows
Monday, September 3, 2018
The University of Georgia Teaching Academy Fellows Program recently welcomed 18 faculty into its 2018-19 cohort at an opening reception held on Aug. 16. The program was created in 2011 by the UGA Teaching Academy to promote excellence in classroom instruction by mentoring early-career faculty.
Each academic year, an enthusiastic group of 15-20 fellows in their first, second, or third year of full-time instruction are recruited from among all full-time UGA faculty, both tenure and non-tenure, who teach UGA undergraduate, graduate, or professional courses. Each cohort of fellows is divided into four teams, and each team is mentored by two award-winning Teaching Academy faculty members.
The Mentors meet monthly with their Fellows to reflect on teaching, learn about resources
at UGA, and help build an instructional toolkit. In addition, the entire cohort meets as a whole three times a semester to participate
in dinner workshops in the evenings. This year, the Teaching Academy Fellows Program
has partnered with the McCoy Hutchinson Graduate Mentoring Academy for fellows who
want a two-year mentorship experience.
The 2018-19 Teaching Academy Fellows are Karen Aguar, Management Information Systems; Brandy Burgess, Population Health; Alexander Bucksch, Plant Biology; Zhuo Chen, Health Policy and Management; Lesley Clack, Health Policy and Management; Joe Conrad, Forest Operations; Karine Gendron, Diagnostic Imaging; Brittani Harmon, Health Policy and Management; Tracy Hill, Small Animal Medicine and Surgery; Reeve Hunter, Microbiology; Weifeng Li, Management Information Systems; Michelle Lofton, Public Administration and Policy; Abhinav Mishra, Food Science and Technology; Kellie Sappington, Microbiology; Lori Sutter, Forestry and Natural Resources; Greg Thaler, International Affairs; Rustin Van Katwyk, Dance; Jennifer Walker, Mathematics; Kyle Woosnam, Forestry and Natural Resources; and Laura Zimmerman, Economics.

The TAFP is assisted by Teaching Academy Executive Secretary Stefani Hilley.
The program is coordinated by UGA’s Teaching Academy with support from the Office of the President and PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP. The mission of the Teaching Academy is to promote and celebrate excellence in teaching and to foster learning through inquiry.
