Director of Student Financial Aid

Nancy Ferguson serves as director of Student Financial Aid at the University of Georgia. She has more than 24 years of experience in higher education administration. She has dedicated her career to helping students achieve their educational goals by providing them with the necessary financial resources.

In her current role, she plays a pivotal role in ensuring that students have access to the financial resources they need to pursue their academic aspirations. She leads a dedicated team of financial aid professionals, overseeing the administration of scholarships, grants, loans, and work-study programs. Her strategic vision and leadership skills have resulted in the implementation of innovative initiatives that have improved the efficiency and effectiveness of the financial aid office.

Throughout her career, she has held various positions in student financial aid, gaining valuable experience and knowledge in financial aid policies, regulations, and best practices. Her commitment to staying up-to-date with the ever-changing landscape of financial aid has allowed her to effectively guide students and their families through the intricacies of the financial aid process.

She started out as a Library Assistant in the UGA Science Library. In 1999, she began work in the Office of Student Financial Aid as an accounting assistant who ran the Federal Work-Study Program. She’s also worked as a Special Projects counselor who started the America Reads program at UGA. She’s been a Scholarship Counselor, Lead Scholarship Counselor, Assistant Director for State Programs, and Senior Assistant Director of State Programs and Needs Analysis, and Senior Associate Director.

Ferguson is known for her unwavering commitment to student success and her ability to provide personalized guidance to students from diverse backgrounds. She understands the financial challenges that many students face and works tirelessly to identify and secure additional funding opportunities to support their educational journeys.

Beyond her role at the University of Georgia, Nancy actively participates in professional organizations related to student financial aid, where she collaborates with colleagues to advocate for policies that promote access to higher education for all students. She is also a sought-after speaker at conferences and workshops, sharing her expertise and insights with fellow professionals in the field.

Nancy Ferguson’s dedication, expertise, and passion for helping students make her an invaluable asset to the University of Georgia and the broader higher education community. Her unwavering commitment to ensuring that financial barriers do not hinder students’ educational pursuits has positively impacted the lives of countless students, making her a true champion of access and equity in higher education.

She has a bachelor’s degree in English from UGA and a master’s degree in education from the Mary Francis Early College of Education at UGA. She was one of the first Certified Financial Aid Administrators in the country.
