Introducing SAGE for faculty

Dear faculty,

The Office of Instruction invites you to complete a Progress Survey, a new feature in the advising platform SAGE, to report any concerns that you may have about your undergraduate students’ progress. This information helps the University of Georgia proactively support students. You may use this short survey to help identify students who may need extra support or are in danger of not passing your course. The three questions of the survey will allow you to quickly give us some information regarding attendance, general concerns, or “Keep Up the Good Work” positive feedback.

This survey is a quick way for you to alert a student’s advisor about your concerns. We know from experience that often a student’s academic advisor has a holistic relationship with their students and can effectively nudge them.

To access the Progress Survey for your course(s):

  1. Login to SAGE.
  2. A link to your Outstanding Progress Surveys will be displayed at the top of your SAGE homepage.
  3. Simply check the box next to each student’s name to report a concern. For general concerns, you will be able to include comments (that will go to the student’s advisor). For attendance concerns, you can click the plus button on the right to add a comment.
  4. These actions will trigger notifications so the student’s academic advisor can check in on them and help (the student will not receive a notification from you directly). Checking the positive feedback box, however, will send a kudos message directly to the student.
  5. Click Submit. If you don’t have any progress to report,it is important that you click Submit, so we know you reviewed the survey. You will receive a confirmation email.

To watch a short video on how to complete this check-in, please follow this link: https://www.screencast.com/t/ZBIJRVbL(Please note that the video refers to Starfish, the platform that UGA has renamed SAGE.)

This survey will remain open until the fall 2022 withdrawal deadline (October 24). If you wish to submit additional feedback after the survey is submitted, you can access your Students list any time by logging into SAGE and navigating to the main menu to the Students section. There, you can select a student and then add a flag for a concern or Kudos.

This is completely voluntary as I know you have many additional tasks on your already full plate. Thanks in advance for any feedback you decide to offer via the survey.

Best wishes,

Julia Butler-Mayes, Ph.D.
