Q – What are your current roles and responsibilities as assistant registrar?

A – I am the assistant registrar for the Service Center of the Registrar’s Office. The Service Center is the front-facing entity of the office which handles all phone calls, walk-ups, and the majority of the email correspondence with students, staff, and the general public.

I oversee and manage the daily processing duties of the Service Center, which include sending out enrollment verification letters, processing degree verifications through the National Student Clearinghouse, and processing various forms that are submitted through our office (late adds, section changes, audits, name changes, etc.). I also work on a variety of other tasks, such as assigning registration time tickets, assisting with University Council, and troubleshooting and testing any potential issues that may come about with a Banner system update.

Q – What was your career path like, and what led you to UGA and the Office of the Registrar?

A – After I graduated with my Bachelor’s degree, I knew that I wanted to work in higher education. I had such an amazing support system during my undergraduate studies, and I wanted to be able to give that same support back to the upcoming generations.

I had recently moved to Athens after graduating from a small school in North Carolina and felt like this was a perfect opportunity to bring a sense of a “small school” vibe to a bigger university. I wanted to be able to give students a sense of the small school support that I felt like I had.

Q – Can you tell us about any projects you are working on now? What are some new programs or projects you are excited about that are coming up?

A – The Office of the Registrar is always working on ways to improve the experience for students, faculty, and staff. We have recently partnered with a new third-party system to distribute new diplomas and replacement diploma requests. This third-party system allowed us to outsource the process of manually rolling diplomas. There have also been several projects related to the curriculum systems side of our office we have been working on, such as the new PARC system.

I also recently worked with EITS to streamline one of our processes related to assigning registration time tickets. This was a project that, although the general public or anyone outside our office doesn’t see the change, really impacted and improved the process of assigning time tickets to the students at the University.

Q – What do you like to do outside of the office?

A – Outside of the office, I really enjoy spending time with my friends, family, and pets. I also love traveling and immersing myself in new cultures and experiences. My favorite trip so far has been South Africa. I stayed on a Big Cat Rehabilitation Sanctuary for about a week, and it was one of the best experiences I have ever had. The sunsets (these photos) were also gorgeous and lasted so long! The sky was constantly changing for about 45 minutes, and it was so beautiful. I am hoping to travel to Argentina and France later this year, which I am also very excited about!

Q – What is a fun fact about you that your coworkers might not know?

A – I have climbed the Great Wall of China twice in drastically different weather climates. The first time, it was 5 degrees Fahrenheit with a windchill taking it down to almost -10 degrees. The second time, it was a steamy 95 degrees Fahrenheit!

I think the climb in the cold was more difficult, mostly because I really hate the cold. All my limbs were so numb for about an hour afterwards!
